The station is equipped with an HydroMet OTT Pressure Level Sensor (PLS) measuring water pressure and temperature. The sensor is connected to a SUTRON Satlink2-V2 which collect 1 min average values (from a 1 Hz internal sampling) logged every 10 min and transmitted via an Omni-directional GOES antenna every hour. The station is installed on a wharf and the sensor is moored at about 1.5 m depth from mean sea level. This station was installed as part of a bay-scale monitoring program that occurred from May 2015 to May 2017 and that aimed at understanding the dominant ocean dynamics of Fortune Bay. It has been maintained ever since and visited on a yearly basis (approximately) though it suffered from instrument failure from late 2018 to late 2020. The Kaipokok Bay weather station is part of a sea ice monitoring project led by Dr. Eric Oliver and May Wang at Dalhousie University in partnership with the Nunatsiavut Government and the community of Postville. It was established in January 2024 and is active only during the ice season (approx. mid-January to mid-April). The goal of the project is to study long-term changes to the sea ice, ocean and weather, with a specific focus on how heat is transferred to and from the ice. Funding for this project was received from the Crown-Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (Government of Canada) through the Marine Conservation Targets Grant. Other measurements (and instruments) recorded at the ice monitoring site include: * Snow and ice temperature (Sea Ice Mass Balance Apparatus (SIMBA)) * Ocean currents (Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs)) * Ocean temperature and salinity (Conductivity Temperature Depth loggers (CTDs)) * Ice salinity * Snow density\n\ncdm_data_type = TimeSeries\nVARIABLES:\nstation_name\nlatitude (degrees_north)\nlongitude (degrees_east)\ntime (Timestamp, seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z)\ndcp_header\nBP_mbar_Avg (Barometric pressure, mbar)\nAirT_C_Avg (Air temperature, degree_C)\nRH (Relative humidity, 1)\nDP_C_Avg (Dew point, degree_C)\nWS_ms_Avg (Average Wind speed, m s-1)\nWs_ms_MIN (Minimum Wind speed, m s-1)\nWs_ms_MAX (Maximum Wind speed, m s-1)\nWS_ms_S_WVT (Mean horizontal speed, m s-1)\nWindDir_D1_WVT (Unit vector mean direction, degree)\nWindDir_SD1_WVT (Standard deviation of direction, degree)\nWindDir (Wind Direction, degree)\n... The buoy also provides a continuous data feed in support of the Science and R&D community. The buoy is capable of measuring a variety of atmospheric and surface conditions including: wind speed and direction, air temperature, humidity, dew point, barometric pressure, water temperature, current speed and direction (0.5 m. depth), wave height, direction and period as well as wave spectral information. The buoy is also equipped with an Aids to Navigation Information System (ATONiS) allowing direct transmittal of the buoy data to a ship's bridge.\n\ncdm_data_type = TimeSeries\nVARIABLES:\nstation_name\ntime (Timestamp, seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z)\nlongitude (degrees_east)\nlatitude (degrees_north)\nprecise_lon (Precise Longitude, degrees_east)\nprecise_lat (Precise Latitude, degrees_north)\nwind_spd_avg (Wind Speed Average, m s-1)\nwind_spd_max (Wind Speed Max, m s-1)\nwind_dir_avg (Wind From Direction, degree)\nwind_spd2_avg (Wind Speed Average 2, m s-1)\nwind_spd2_max (Wind Speed Max 2, m s-1)\nwind_dir2_avg (Wind From Direction 2, degree)\nair_temp_avg (degree_C)\nair_pressure_avg (Air Pressure, mbar)\nair_humidity_avg (1)\nair_dewpoint_avg (degree_C)\nsurface_temp_avg (degree_C)\n...
